How to Schedule TikTok Ads and GMV Max On/Off by Hour (Dayparting Across Many Shops)
GMV Max has no native dayparting, and TikTok's ad-group dayparting doesn't scale across accounts. Here's when switching ads off overnight helps, when it hurts, and how to automate it safely.
Many TikTok Shop sellers notice the same pattern: overnight spend in the US converts worse, and by morning the budget is gone. The obvious fix is to switch ads off at night. It's also easy to get wrong.
What TikTok gives you natively
- Regular campaigns: ad groups have a dayparting option — pick the hours of the week the ad group may deliver.
- GMV Max: at the time of writing there is no dayparting setting. The campaign runs whenever it has budget.
- Many accounts: native dayparting is set per ad group, one by one. With ten shops and thirty ad accounts, nobody keeps those consistent.
Should you daypart at all?
Dayparting helps when all of these are true:
- You can see a consistent hour-of-day pattern over at least 2–3 weeks — not one bad night.
- The bad hours lose money at your margin (ROI below break-even), not just "lower than the afternoon".
- The budget is actually running out before your best hours.
It often hurts GMV Max when:
- The campaign is still in its learning period — repeated stops slow learning down.
- Your overnight traffic is small but profitable — you'd be cutting cheap orders.
- You sell across time zones and "night" in one market is the evening peak in another.
Rule of thumb: look at hourly orders and spend for 14 days. If the same 4–6 hours lose money on most days, test switching off just those hours on a few campaigns for a week, and compare against similar campaigns you left alone.
How to schedule ads on/off across many accounts
Whatever tool you use, a safe schedule should:
- Use the market's time zone, not your office's.
- Only turn back on what it turned off. If an operator — or an automation rule — paused a campaign for a reason, the morning "on" must not revive it.
- Respect manual overrides. If someone switches a campaign back on at night on purpose, the schedule shouldn't fight them until the next scheduled "off".
- Check live status before acting, and retry failures.
- Undo cleanly. Disabling or deleting a schedule should re-enable what it paused, immediately.
- One schedule per campaign, so two schedules can't fight each other.
- Log every switch, with what was done, skipped and failed.
How DorisMarketting Ads Studio does it
The Scheduled on/off module in Ads Studio was built for sellers running many shops on US time:
- One schedule = one time zone + "off at" + "on at" + days of the week, e.g. America/Los_Angeles, off 01:00, on 07:00, Mon–Fri.
- A schedule can include GMV Max campaigns, regular campaigns and ad groups across many ad accounts and shops at once (GMV Max placeholder campaigns are left alone).
- It checks every minute and reacts to the most recent scheduled event; before switching off it reads live status from TikTok and only switches off what is running, remembering exactly what it paused.
- In the morning it re-enables only what it paused — campaigns that were already off, or were stopped by a rule or a person, stay off. Anything a person switched back on overnight is left alone.
- Failed calls are retried after 10 minutes; disabling or deleting the schedule re-enables everything it paused straight away.
- Each object can belong to only one schedule, and every switch is logged.
Combine it with GMV Max automation rules — rules decide what deserves budget, the schedule decides when anything spends.
A safe rollout plan
| Week | What to do |
|---|---|
| 0 | Export 14 days of hourly spend and orders. Find hours that lose money on most days. |
| 1 | Schedule off only those hours, on 20–30% of campaigns. Leave similar campaigns untouched. |
| 2 | Compare daily ROI and total orders between the two groups. Dayparting that raises ROI but cuts orders by more than it saves isn't a win. |
| 3 | Roll out to the rest — or roll back. |
FAQ
Does TikTok GMV Max support dayparting?
Not natively at the time of writing; GMV Max campaigns deliver whenever they have budget. Third-party tools such as DorisMarketting Ads Studio can switch GMV Max campaigns off and on at set times in a chosen time zone.
How do I turn off TikTok ads at night automatically?
For regular campaigns, use ad-group dayparting in Ads Manager. For GMV Max campaigns, or for many ad accounts at once, use a scheduling tool that switches campaigns off at a set time and back on in the morning — and that only re-enables what it paused.
Will pausing GMV Max overnight reset learning?
Frequent stops can slow learning, especially for new campaigns. Test on a subset of mature campaigns for a week and compare against campaigns you left running before rolling it out.
Can I schedule ads across multiple TikTok ad accounts?
Yes. In DorisMarketting Ads Studio one schedule can cover campaigns and ad groups across many ad accounts and shops, in the time zone you choose.
